The minutes of the meetings for the Data Architecture and Infrastructure pillar of the Data Expert Group.

    • Finalising RDF4J PR merge

      • Discussed the review comments from @Stephen Lawrence and getting the PR merged

      • Haonan has updated the PR to add RDF4J support to the docker reference compose. This addresses the immediate need. Finessing can be in a follow up

      • Haonan has updated the C4 diagram for IL/KL. She thinks some later refinment may be needed from the CQELs integration.

      • RDF4J Service source location:

        • From the discussion it appears the service would be deployed outside of a docker deployment which suggests it should reside with the other core components. Haonan would like to keep it seperate from the KL C++ main component.

        • Structural changes are expected to come from the CQELS integration so it was decided that the RDF4J Service would be left in the Docker directory for now until the CQELS changes were clearer.

      • With the above addressed the main barrier to merge is the missing sign-off from most recent commits. Haonan will fix those then Steve can merge.

    • CQELS integration

      • Discussed above. Haonan is expecting structural changes to KL from the CQELS integration. Anh is starting a public WIP PR. That will be used as the basis for an on-going discussion about the architecture.

    • Steve requested for input on semantic reasoning to the CDSP presentation

  • Christian is back from his break.

        • Steve summarised the review of the RDF4J PR and the result of his meeting with Haonan to discuss them. Principal outcome was Haonan agreed with the findings and it could be merged as she that Haonan would follow up quickly with smaller PRs to address them.

        • Steve is ready to merge but Haonan’s question about contributor attribution remains - merge on hold as git commits may be updated if git is used as the solution. Chrisitian agrees on the point that a contributor list is hard to maintain in the root readme. Alternatives were discussed.

        • Christian will discuss the review points and contribution with Haonan end of the week.

      • CQELS

        • TU Berlin will create a WIP pull request as they progress CQELS integration to get early feedback

    • Multi-modal RAG: Christian reports that there has been internal progress whilst he was away. Details to follow

    • S2DM/VDM: Steve summarised recent discussions with @Daniel Alvarez-Coello on S2DM/VDM

  • Steve summarised the recent meeting with the EVRoaming Foundation and how he had mentioned CDSP could be a platform.

Minutes:

    • Migration of IoTDB Node.js binding code in Information Layer to new IoTDB Node.js client

      • Christian says the integration is done internally. Christian will review and then push public PR.

      • Later clarified that

    • Context Retrieval / OSS Reasoners (Christian)

      • Context use-case

        • Whilst final use-case not selected, discussions are focusing on one with 2 aspects: timeseries and ontology, e.g. can I make it through my trip with the current EV battery charge

      • Christian want to keep the architecture general purpose rather than highly tuned to a specific type of use-case or implementation. Wants to keep reasoners pluggable for example. GraphRAG remains in focus to help with retrieval.

      • S2DM / VDM

        • S2DM is a good fit for the ontological needs of making relationships explicit. This raises the question of whether we support VSS and S2DM. Christian is thinking that VSS can be supported via VDM and the S2DM toolings ability to generate vspec when required. Details to be worked out as work progresses.

        • In terms of development roadmap ‘epics’ Christian is thinking that the knowledge layer work would be built on S2DM toolset and semantics. This work could use the existing VSS/vspec speaking Information Layer, i.e. KM work on semantics and ontology first, which uses vspec speaking IL. Then as second step can migrate Information Layer.

    • Steve raised the question of adding to the online documentation so that people with targetted needs can find the right information easily, e.g. how do I get data into the Playground. He also intends to redo the Introductory section to onboard people more easily. He asked for Christian’s thoughts so he can work on it whilst Christian is out in July and avoid too much re-work later. Christian said he will create some notes on what he thinks is needed.

  • Discussed planning towards Automotive World in Tokyo. CDSP session will be largely introductory in nature as many in audience will not know what it is. There will likely be a pre-conf workshop with JasPar, which although mainly is for the VSS collab may provide an opportunity for some more detailed session.

      • Danh thinks CQELS4J would be the appropriate reasoner to target

      • Whilst not finalised the ‘what was that warning beep?’ agent use-case still resonates due its multi-modal need to consult multiple contexts, e.g. information about possible vehicle alerts, looking back in history at timeseries of vehicle status.

      • Tokyo conference in September: Christian has a leave of absence for July. Makes sense to get rough plan in place middle of this month and finalise it by end of month so the various contributors can simply execute in July.

    • Integrating Apache IoTDB Node.js/Typescript client

      • Christian reports that the existing boiler plate code in the Information Layer to access IoTDB will be replaced with the client. It may land next week.

      • Steve and he discussed the additional step of using the IoTDB subscription mechanism rather than the existing polling code will be done. Christian thinks so.

    • AI Context Retrieval

      • Christian outlined some early ideas for the AI Context Retrieval topic. Basically investigating multi-modal retrieval across the different data layers using the most appropriate blends of contexts - timeseries, deterministic semantic reasoning, language models etc - to answer AI queries

      • Discussed hybrid approaches. From bottom-up perspective makes sense. Open question is of course how to choose context from top-down perspective.

      • Within discussion is Graph-RAG. That suggests S2DM would be useful, which would accelerate the drive to add S2DM support to IL/KL in CDSP. As a result we might look to utilise the IoTDB table model (currently tree model is used) as it lends itself to freely associate different domains.

          • Christian: Why was example moved into Knowledge Server itself. That does not seem correct

          • Stephen: The PR does not update the reference docker compose in the cdsp/docker folder. Is this PR a breaking change for that docker compose?

        • Christian will discuss with @Haonan Qiu tomorrow. As the others involved in the project can still base their work on the PR, i.e. a lack of merge is not blocking them, decided to not merge yet.

        • Conclusion was some further improvements possible but it adds useful information and can be merged.

    • @Paul Boyes explained that Mike Nunnery is providing a ‘hub’ concept in the showcase for the COVESA community projects. He thinks displays will be provided free of charge. We need to follow up with Mike.

    • Discussion of whether to hold a workshop or not this time?

      • @Stephen Lawrence is interested in discussing collaboration with other groups and driving the roadmap

      • @Rami Pinto Prieto is interested in discussing cloud processing

      • Unclear whether its best to hold a specific workshop where you might not get the attendance you need, have the conversations on site F2F with groups/people, or hold a specific on-line session after Porto as not everyone will be there. Decision postponed for people to consider before next week
