    • April 22, 10:00-11:00: Jan Kubovy, BMW: OEM AOSP-based VHAL introduction:
As vehicles become software‑defined, OEMs might want to expose while at the the same time fully control reliable, consistent vehicle data to insurance partners, fleet operators, mobility services, ADAS analytics, and in‑car digital applications. Today in Android, an OEM can offer either all vehicle data via OEM signature or close none at all. Today, every OEM solves this differently — resulting in fragmentation, high integration costs, and slow time‑to‑market.

An OEM AOSP‑based VHAL offers a harmonized and scalable way to publish core vehicle data across models and regions using Android’s native Vehicle HAL framework.
Participate in this Kickoff session to see a live emulator presentation of an OEM VHAL showcase and get familiar with the open source code which is provided.
Contribute in this workshop your ideas on valuable OEM Use Cases and work on the VHAL signals needed as well as on the next steps that have to be taken.

    • April 22, 11:00-11:45: Chris Goebel, appsfactory:
AOSP Entertainment Workstream: Why the Android Automotive App Ecosystem Isn’t taking off - and what we can do about it:
Android Automotive promised an open ecosystem for third-party apps and new in-car entertainment experiences. However, adoption has been slower than anticipated. The number of available apps remains limited and many developers hesitate to invest due to unclear ROI, fragmentation across OEM implementations, and ecosystem uncertainties.

This session will explore the main blockers preventing the ecosystem from growing and discuss where collaboration within COVESA could help reduce fragmentation and improve developer incentives.

In addition, the session will gather input from members on the future role of the Entertainment Workstream and potential areas of focus moving forward.

      • Overview of the current state of the Android Automotive entertainment ecosystem.

      • Why developers are not building Android Automotive apps.

      • Gathering input from members on priorities and potential next steps.

    • April 22, 11:50-12:30: AOSP Co-Chairs: Future working model of the AOSP group - future topics and participation:
Discuss future topics like e.g. Geocoding, iMAP updates, App Host, in-app updates and others.
Review our Group Charta and decide what to do next.
Open discussion on who would actively participate and contribute in the future. Help us to get on track with all what will be needed from the AOSP group in 2026 and 2027.

    • April 22, 14:00-17:30: Jan Kubovy, BMW and AOSP Co-Chairs: Dev Workshop in the Showroom:

      • OEM VHAL PoCs coding as decided in the morning session “OEM VHAL introduction”

      • AOSP App Prototyping
